Emperors College of Traditional Oriental Medicine, one of the oldest and most distinguished acupuncture colleges in the nation, is pleased to welcome five new and returning faculty members in the Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine program.

Atsuki Maeda, MTOM, LAc
Atsuki Maeda is returning to Emperor's College as a clinical supervisor and will also be joining Emperors academic faculty for the first time teaching Japanese acupuncture courses. A licensed acupuncturist in Japan and California, Maeda specializes in Japanese acupuncture, moxibustion, and tuinna. Maeda successfully spearheaded the Japanese acupuncture program at AIMC Berkeley as an instructor and a clinical supervisor from 2008 to 2010 and has appeared as a guest speaker at California State University of Long Beach lecturing on alternative medicine topics. From 1987 to 1992, Maeda worked extensively with stroke patients at Kuroda Hospital in Tokyo.
Maeda is a 1988 graduate from Goto College of Medical Arts & Science in Tokyo, Japan, and received his masters degree in traditional Oriental medicine from Emperors College, Santa Monica, California in 1993.
Lorraine Wilcox, PhD, LAc
Lorraine Wilcox is a returning faculty member at Emperors College who will be teaching Advanced Moxibustion. An experienced TCM practitioner, Wilcox served as staff acupuncturist at the Jeffrey Goodman Special Care Clinic in Los Angeles from 1995 to 2005. At the Goodman Clinic, a Western medicine treatment facility for HIV patients, she implemented Chinese medicine and acupuncture treatments into the patients care. Wilcox is an experienced translator of medical texts from Chinese into English and an accomplished author on various Chinese medicine topics; her research articles have been published in the Journal of Chinese Medicine, Chinese Medicine Times and others. She is the author of Moxibustion: The Power of Mugwort Fire, and Moxibustion: A Modern Clinical Handbook.
A 1988 graduate of Samra University of Oriental Medicine, Wilcox then received a PhD in classical Chinese medicine from the American College of Complementary Medicine under the guidance of Jeffrey Yuen. Her dissertation was on the use of moxibustion during the Ming Dynasty.
Sergei Shaginyan, PhD, MD (Russia), LAc
Dr. Sergei Shaginyan is a new faculty member at Emperors College and will be teaching Basic Nutrition. He is specialized in pediatrics, neurology, and pathophysiology. Shaginyan has practiced a variety of treatment forms, including acupuncture, herbs, medical qi gong, and meditation.
Among his publications is the 1991 book entitled Nutritional in Indian Traditional Medicine as well as several articles for magazines such as Whole Life Times. Shaginyan recently served as a research assistant at UCLAs department of neuro-muscular pathology, is a former faculty member at Yo San University and teaches at American College of Complementary Medicine. He is a 1981 graduate of Moscow Medical School, Russia, and received his masters degree of Oriental medicine from Samra University in Los Angeles, California.
Robert Chu, PhD, LAc, QME
Dr. Robert Chu joins the Emperors College masters program faculty and will serve as clinical supervisor in Emperors clinical externship rotation at The Roy & Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center in Burbank, California. Chu is a California-licensed acupuncturist and herbalist specializing in Master Tungs painless acupuncture methods. Formerly affiliated with the St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles as the first full-time staff acupuncturist, Chu treated cancer patients using acupuncture, herbal therapy, qi gong, and tai chi. He has been a featured speaker for the American Cancer Society. Chu has taught acupuncture at various TCM schools including Samra University and Southern California University School of Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture.
Robert Chu received his masters degree in 2000 from Samra University of Oriental Medicine, Los Angeles, California. He was awarded a PhD in 2004.
John Hah, PhD, SE
Dr. John Hah joins the academic faculty at Emperors College teaching physics. Hah comes from a family of traditional Oriental medicine practitioners and is a former instructor at Dongguk University, Los Angeles. From 2007 to 2008, Hah was a faculty member at California State University in Los Angeles. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of California in Los Angeles in 1997.
